Amelia and David’s wedding was a true embodiment of an elegant countryside marquee wedding, set against the picturesque backdrop of David’s parents’ home near Barnstaple in Devon. The venue was nothing short of spectacular, with a beautifully landscaped garden featuring a meandering stream, charming bridges, a rose-lined walkway, and blooming rose bushes in every corner—a perfect setting for a summer wedding.
A relaxed start to the day
My day began with a visit to the house, where I met David’s father while David and his groomsmen were out for a wholesome morning run—a refreshing start to a wedding day. With the talented Clare Fynn helping coordinate the event, any pre-wedding jitters were quickly put to rest. The venue itself was a masterpiece, framed by the rolling hills of Devon.
After capturing candid moments of David’s family and friends, it was time to head over to meet Amelia, who was just a short 15-minute drive away.
Arriving at Kentisbury Grange, I found a relaxed Amelia, surrounded by her family and bridesmaids, adding the finishing touches to her makeup and hair. The anticipation was palpable as Amelia adorned her stunning dress from Emma Victoria Payne Bridal. Her mother and bridesmaids joined in, assisting with earrings, shoes, and buttoning up the dress. Tears of joy welled up in the room as everyone marvelled at how sensational she looked. To everyone’s surprise, we were ahead of schedule (a rare occurrence), allowing us to capture some exquisite bridal portraits and informal group shots in front of the hotel.
A traditional church wedding service
The highlight of the day was Amelia’s arrival at a charming church nestled high in the Devon hills. The guests were already seated, eagerly awaiting her entrance. I positioned myself at the entrance, ready to capture the moment she arrived in a picturesque Morris Minor. The service was a beautiful affair, with tears flowing freely, particularly from the bridesmaids, who received compliments on their singing from the vicar.
Couple portraits in the beautiful Devonshire countryside
After the ceremony, the couple and I quickly departed to a serene hilltop for some breathtaking couple shots, taking in the panoramic views that stretched for miles.
A lakeside wedding reception
Next, we joined their guests at a nearby lake for the reception. The atmosphere was idyllic, with guests mingling to the backdrop of acoustic guitar music. After the couple caught up with their friends, we seized the opportunity for group shots against the scenic lake backdrop, with the bridesmaids radiating happiness.
A walk amongst an English garden
The party then made their way to the gardens, where prosecco and a selection of garden games awaited. As guests settled in for speeches and the meal, I stole Amelia and David away to capture them in the enchanting gardens that seemed tailor-made for a photoshoot.
A quintessential Devon marquee wedding reception
After our portrait session, the couple made a grand entrance into the marquee, greeted by cheers and waving napkins.
Speeches commenced, starting with Amelia’s father and then Amelia herself, setting the tone for a memorable evening. Post-meal, David, his sister, and best man delivered a side-splitting combined speech.
Golden hour at a beautiful Devon marquee wedding
With the sun beginning its descent, I seized the opportunity to capture the couple in the golden light, opting for multiple short portrait sessions to keep the fun alive.
First dance and ceilidh
As twilight approached, it was time for the first dance and the highly anticipated Ceilidh. The dance floor was alive with energy, filled with guests spinning, forming tunnels, and reveling in the celebration. As the night got into full swing, it was time for me to bid farewell, leaving behind a lively and unforgettable party.
